The P2012 Sentinel SMP is the Special Mission Platform to extend your missions. Two hatches are available on the fuselage belly ready to accomodate your cameras and sensors, to accomplish any mission.
The P2012 Sentinel SMP is the ultimate TECNAM Special Mission Platform aircraft, without compromises on any front. With it, TECNAM elevated the already world- renown TECNAM P2006T to the next level, thanks to a more capable and advanced surveillance platform for short- and medium-range operations. The continuous investment in R&D, and the passion and attention to detail of the TECNAM engineers, have made it possible to reach such a high level of tech without having to settle on a cost-effective solution. The result is a truly unique combo in the Special Mission Platform market.
Sleek, modern and seductive, the P2012 Traveller has been the reference platform to develop the P2012 Sentinel SMP, the perfect combination of cutting-edge technology and efficiency with its unique Italian-style design. Its elegant colour scheme of air-superiority grey, with black vertical fin and a dedicated logo, immediately recalls the aircraft’s vocation: being the earth’s Sentinel from the sky.
To do this, two 735x567mm (28.9×22.3in) hatches have been designed on fuselage belly, with capability of accommodating the majority of sensors, cameras, lidar and mission equipment available worldwide.
Twin-engine configuration guarantees the hatches to be always free from exhaust, so the risk of carbon monoxide will never be an issue both for crew (one or two pilots and up to 5 mission operators) and for installed mission equipment.
The standard configuration includes, in addition to the hatches with on-ground removable covers, multiple sockets for 28VDC mission power (up to 120Amp available) as well as a wide range of options, such as 115/230VAC plugs (1200VA available), 14VDC connectors, mission screen for pilot, operator console, electrically operated sliding doors for hatches, antennae pre-installation and approval. Tecnam also offers multiple services, such as dedicated fitting plates up to turnkey solutions, ensuring that customers will always be confident about their aerial platform choice.
Whether it is used by a government or a private organization, the operator will benefit from increased range, endurance, cabin volume and crew space.
One of the main advantages of the P2012 is the option to operate in single-pilot mode with a class rating (no type rating required). Always striving for perfection, TECNAM initiated a dedicated program with L3 HARRISTM Wescam MXTM – series Electro Optical Sensors optimized integration. This will greatly improve the law-enforcement mission efficiency when performed with the P2012 Sentinel, taking advantage of its twin-engine safety and its capability of accommodating (in addition to one Wescam MX-10, MX-15 or MX-20 turret) other mission sensors such as a SAR Radar, providing the P2012 SMP with the mission capabilities normally pertaining to CS/FAR 25 platforms at a fraction of their acquisition and operating costs. The high cabin volume and payload will allow for excellent mission performance and plenty of space for sensors installation and operators console. A TECNAM Sentinel equipped with full mission equipment, at its maximum takeoff weight of 3680 kg, will provide up to 9 hours’ endurance for up to six 90kg-crew members, sensor operators and observers. Some of P2012 Customers are going to order part of their P2012 fleet in SMP Sentinel configuration, in order to adequately differentiate their business especially in periods like this where global was against Covid-19 continues. In fact, when P2012 is purchased as SMP, a quick conversion kit allows the restoration of full nine passengers capability.

Powered by Lycoming
The Lycoming TEO-540-C1A Engine is a direct-drive six-cylinder, horizontally opposed, turbocharged, air-cooled engine. It has electronic fuel injection, electronic ignition and down exhaust. This engine has an automotive type starter, one 28V alternator (140A) and a propeller governor pad.
The EEC (Electronic Engine Control) is an electronic, microprocessor controlled system, which continuously monitors and adjusts ignition timing, fuel injection timing, and fuel mixture based on operating conditions. The EEC eliminates the need for magnetos and manual fuel/air mixture control lever.
Two hatches are available on the fuselage belly, measuring 735x567mm (28.9x22.3”). The hatch covers, used when the aircraft is not operational or to protect sensors during ferry flights, are made of GFRP and equipped with quick-release Camloc®, for easy and fast removal and installation.
Heavy mission payload
Each frame located on the front and rear hatches is capable of withstanding a mission equipment mass of up to 130kg (285lb) with CoG located 800mm/31.5” from the cabin floor. Additional information and data are available upon request for specific installation design, including zone-approved models for dedicated FEM analysis.

The P2012 Sentinel SMP is designed around a flexible, intuitive and low pilot workload demanding cabin with comfortable access for a second pilot when required.
The avionic suite is based on the latest generation Garmin G1000 Nxi, composed of two 10-inch PFDs and a single central 12-inch MFD. Remote redundant AHRS and ADC (inertial and air data units) provide the main flight and attitude information, whilst a third back-up is provided by a small, vertical layout MD-302 (Mid-Continent).
A remote unit transponder, mode-S, is provided as standard with ADSB-OUT, ADSB-IN, FIS-B to match the incoming future General Aviation requirements for navigation and traffic awareness.
Dual standard heated pitot probes enhance the flight safety in all phases, supporting flight especially during single-pilot operations.
A single, latest generation Garmin GMA 350C audio panel, manages the ATC and internal communications with several novelties such as 3D audio and separation of pilot/co-pilot communication channels (split function).
The standard avionic suite is then completed by the latest generation Garmin-manufactured Automatic Flight Control System, with three axes of operations and provided with a yaw damper (selectable also when A/P is OFF). A/P mode controller, installed in the top of cabin cockpit, allows immediate interaction via dedicated push buttons and rotary wheels.
Engine monitoring is fully integrated inside the avionic suite screens and allows a management of power, with significant fully automatic mixture control (absence of related lever and always guarantees the best fuel/air ratio for every single cylinder).
SMP Optional Equipment
Sensor hatches sliding cover
The sliding cover can be purchased for one or both of the hatches and includes the electrically operated cover(s) with control switch and warning lights located on the mission power box control area.
Optional features are available on the mission power box: these include a powerful converter with 110/220 plug capable of up to 1200VA and up to 4 additional antennae connectors dedicated to mission equipment.
Passenger retrofit kit
The passenger retrofit kit allows restoration of full pax capability of the P2012 Traveller with 9 seats. Dedicated hatch covers with embedded seat rails allow fast restoration of the passenger seats within a few hours.
Pilot’s dedicated monitor
A mission monitor is available as optional. The monitor is located close to the pilot’s seat and wired to the front hatch area, ready to be connected to the mission equipment. The pilot’s monitor is typically used for mission-dedicated flight plans, EOS field-of-view awareness and similar purposes.
Tecnam P2012 proposes a solution for the mission operator in the form of a roomy console that includes:
Area for a 21.5’’ screen;
Area for keyboard;
Storage area for tools, wires and racks.
Dedicated GPS/GLONAS antennae
Up to 4 additional antennae can be supplied with the P2012 SMP Sentinel as factory-approved installation. This will simplify the customer-specific mission equipment validation and/or STC approval.
Additional paint schemes are available as per customer choice and depending on the specific mission and/or needs of visibility maximization/camouflage.
